Punk Rocker Marco Pogo Ditches Politics for Boozy Austrian Premiere

Marco Pogo delivered a lot of punk and no politics at all on Friday at the Austrian premiere of the new turbo beer show “Nobel goes the world to the ground” in Linz. 1,200 fans celebrated a lavish party.

Dominik Wlazny wants to recruit 20,000 new members by the end of April so that his beer party can run in the National Council elections in the fall. He already has almost half of it. If you think you can rely on the help of your alter-ego Marco Pogo for the rest, you’re wrong. But huge: Yesterday evening in Linz at the Austrian premiere of the new turbo beer show “Nobel goes the world to the ground”, Pogo completely surprisingly left the party out and concentrated only on the beer for 90 minutes in front of 1,200 fans in the Posthof. And the punk.

With a well-oiled setlist, after 11 concerts in Germany or Switzerland and even a performance in Prague, he rumbled through from the programmatic opener “DURST” to the shout-along finale with the cult Helene Fischer variation “Unemployed through the night”. Fan-friendly party program. A remote-controlled shopping cart (!) included for beer replenishment.

Between turbo beer hymns like “King Of Simmering” or “Feuerwehrfestl” and new thoughtful tones a’la “Zerstreutes Herz” there were also the classics from Nirvana (“Smells Like Teen Spirit”), Beach Boys (“Barbara Ann”) or David Hasselhoff (“I’ve been looking for free beer”) intoned.

“If there’s free beer we’ll go anywhere!”

Drinking slogans anyway: “If there’s free beer, we’ll go anywhere!” The fans celebrated with – pun intended – the pogo dance, the Wall of Death and the polonaise.

After “Nobel goes down the world”, in which he swung the Bengals and also warned about Putin (“A koida winter will come when Father Frost opens the sun again before the final downfall”), we went with “I hoss olle Leit” in the encores. And right in the middle of the fans: Pogo let himself be carried through the Posthof in stage diving style and then sang “Servas Adios” in a circle of chairs, only to perform a special medley in the second round of encores in keeping with the stage anniversary: “10 years of Turbo beer in 10 minutes”. His show performance for “Island must remain an island” was even cooler: Pogo was carried by the fans on a yellow plastic island to the mixing desk and handed out lots of turbo beer as a thank you. He set the grand finale with “From an hour 40 onwards it’s considered work – luckily we’re just under that” and the party hit “Unemployed”.

From Saturday (Dornbirn) and until the grand finale in Vienna’s Gasometer (March 30th), there are six more boozy Austrian concerts on the schedule. Probably still without any electoral fight.
