Khalistani leader Amritpal Singh is currently on the run from the Punjab Police, who seek to arrest him. The police have already arrested atleast 78 people, with Daljeet Singh Kalsi being apprehended from Haryana’s Gurgaon. Reportedly, a special team from the state police had followed Singh’s convoy to Jalandhar’s Shahkot tehsil, but he was last seen speeding away on a motorcycle. With the anticipation of possible unrest, internet service in Punjab has been halted until 12 pm tomorrow. Singh leads “Waris Punjab De”, a radical organisation initially started by actor and activist Deep Sidhu, and often moves around accompanied by armed supporters. He was at the center of a major protest previously, wherein his supporters had broken barricades at a police station to free a kidnapped culprit. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann recently committed to maintaining law and order in the state, while Union Minister Anurag Thakur criticized the AAP government on the same issue.
