AVEZZANO. “I was attacked by the doctor on call in my house because he didn’t want to visit my daughter and then because he didn’t want to leave the apartment.”
This is the “other truth” about what happened in April 2022 in the house of A.C.46, from Avezzano, according to the complaint he filed against M.P.33, a doctor on duty at the Avezzano hospital, following an alleged episode of aggression. The professional, who had reported being attacked by the man, had obtained a request for indictment against the 46-year-old, accused of personal injury and threats to a public official. But there are also two proceedings against the same doctor: one before the justice of the peace and the other before the criminal court of Avezzano.
According to the thesis of the 46 year old, assisted by the lawyer Franco Coluccithe one-year-old daughter had complained of severe illness with a high fever, around 39, and breathing difficulties. The little girl’s parents had consulted the child’s pediatrician, who had prescribed antibiotic and antipyretic therapy, but the situation did not improve. Concerned about the child’s condition, at 9.50pm the father called the emergency medical service at the Avezzano hospital. Initially, the doctor claimed that a home visit was not necessary, but after his father’s insistence, he went to the house. Once he arrived, again according to the thesis of the 46-year-old from Avezzano, the doctor from Capistrello, defended by the lawyer Lucio Cotturonewould have confirmed that the little girl was well, reiterating that the therapy indicated by the pediatrician was sufficient. The little girl’s mother, however, was worried because the fever continued to rise. Her husband had asked the doctor to examine the little girl in more detail, checking the tonsils, ears and other possible causes of that fever, but the doctor replied that he did not have the necessary tools with him to carry out a complete examination as per protocol. Following a heated discussion, again according to the complaint against the doctor, the 46-year-old had invited the professional to leave his home. The doctor, however, according to what was reported in the complaint, had refused and, during a heated argument, had pushed the parent, causing him to fall against his car parked in front of the door. The collision had caused damage to the car and the father had suffered injuries to his right elbow, knee and left leg, as well as trauma to his spine.
In the emergency room he was diagnosed with a prognosis of 10 days. According to the thesis of the parent, who has become a civil party in the proceedings which will be discussed in a few days, the doctor must be prosecuted for what happened, reserving the right to become a civil party in the criminal trial.
