Pumas loses unbeaten streak against Atlas

Last night, everything went against Pumas. From the penalty missed by César Huerta in the eighth minute to the rebound off the back of goalkeeper Julio González, who scored an own goal and led Atlas to a 2-1 victory at the Jalisco stadium. Nothing could change the luck of the university team. That feeling of bad luck allowed the Zorros, who remain undefeated in five Liga MX matches, to crown their third victory of the campaign with a couple of plays.

Huerta had the opportunity to open the scoring. After falling in the area and forcing referee Fernando Hernández to validate the contact of a red-and-black defender, El Chino took the ball to the penalty spot, glanced at goalkeeper Camilo Vargas and shot to his right side without being able to beat the Colombian. From that moment on, something seemed to break in the spirit of the UNAM team, because none of their attacks generated as much danger again.

Sensing their rival’s uncertainty, Atlas began to play their game more lively. A left-footed shot by Jeremy Márquez hit the right post and bounced off the back of Pumas’ goalkeeper, Julio González, who ended up pushing the ball into the back of the net (24). With the score at 1-0, the home team controlled the timing of the match. In the second half they had the luxury of increasing the score through Jhon Murillo (63), whose right-footed shot was unreachable for the auriazul defense.

The Zorros reached 11 points with their fifth victory while the UNAM team, who reduced the gap with a goal by Ignacio Puzzeto (90+5), remained at 10 points.

Tie at the Volcano
