Pumas beat Vancouver to qualify for the round of 16 of the Leagues Cup

Sports Desk, Aug 7 (EFE).- Mexico’s Pumas UNAM beat Canada’s Vancouver Whitecaps 0-2 on Wednesday to qualify for the round of 16 of the Leagues Cup.

In the round of 32 match, César Huerta and Jorge Ruvalcaba scored for the Pumas, who remained alive in the tournament that pits Mexican clubs against those from the MLS.

The felines will challenge the winner of Thursday’s match between the American team Seattle Sounders and LA Galaxy in the round of 16.

The Pumas were the most dangerous team in the first half and after missing three shots on goal in the first half, they opened the scoring in the 36th minute when Peruvian Piero Quispe gave a pass to Huerta, who scored with his left foot to make it 0-1 in favor of the felines.

Vancouver did not react in the second half and the Pumas sealed the match in the 56th minute when Spaniard Rubén Duarte crossed a pass to Ruvalcaba, who scored with his right foot to make it 0-2.

In another match on Wednesday involving American teams, Los Angeles FC (LAFC) beat Austin FC 2-0 to advance to the round of 16.

Frenchman Dénis Bouanga and Uruguayan Cristian Olvera scored for the Los Angeles team, which will face the best team in the round of 16 between the American team San José Earthquakes and the Mexican team Necaxa, who will face each other on Wednesday.

Along with Seattle-Galaxy and San José-Necaxa, tomorrow there will be other round of 32 matches: Miami-Toronto and Tigres UANL-Pachuca.
