Puerto Rico reaches 5,046 positive cases of COVID-19 with an additional 61

Almost three months after the start of the emergency, Puerto Rico reached 5,046 unique positive cases of COVID-19 with an additional 61 infected, while the total deaths from the disease remained at 142 after no deaths were reported for the second consecutive day, reported the Health Department.

“Without added fatalities, the total number of deaths recorded through the Surveillance System remains at 63 and those reported through the Demographic Register add up to 79. It is important to remember that any death recorded after the report is issued will be reflected in reports later, “maintains an agency press release.

It was reported that of the 61 new cases, only nine were processed through molecular tests, while 52 were due to serological tests. Given this, the total number of molecular examinations carried out on the island increased to 1,373 and that of serological tests to 3,673. Of this universe of cases, 2,594 correspond to women and 2,452 to men.

The number of patients hospitalized for the virus remained at 107, of which eight are confined in an Intensive Care Unit and seven are connected to an artificial respirator. To date, the country’s hospitals have 3,324 beds and 869 artificial respirators available for adults.

However, the total number of COVID-19 tests carried out on the island is unknown, as well as the number of active and infected patients who have overcome the disease.

Meanwhile, San Juan remains as the municipality with the highest number of cases (686), followed by Bayamón (312) and Guaynabo (249). In the case of the regions, the Metro is the one with the highest incidence of the disease with 1,415 cases. It is followed by Bayamón (979), Caguas (695) and Ponce (657). Despite these data, Health still does not have the municipality of 101 cases available.

Regarding the age groups with the most registered cases, the 50-59 age group continues to dominate the statistics with 1,020, followed by the 40-49 year-old group (893) and the 60-69-year-old group (767).
