Puebla lags behind Chiapas and is now the state that lags behind in vaccination – El Financiero

In Mexico, 47 percent of the population aged 18 and over already have at least one dose of one of the COVID-19 vaccines approved in the country, according to data from the Ministry of Health.

Until last week, Chiapas it was the state with the lowest vaccination coverage in Mexico, however, with a percentage of 29 percent, it has been displaced by Puebla, which has 26 percent of its population inoculated.

Given the situation in Chiapas, a state with remote communities and an indigenous population that distrusts the vaccine, the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) took action on the matter and at the beginning of July began a special operation to recover vaccination coverage.


Puebla and Chipas are followed Campeche, with 33 percent of the population vaccinated (always from 18 years of age), Guerrero (34 percent) and Oaxaca (36 percent).

On the contrary, the entities with the highest vaccination coverage are Baja California (79 percent), Baja California Sur, Mexico City (both with 75 percent) and Chihuahua (70 percent).

In the states bordering the United States, the vaccination process has been accelerated due to the fact that the over a million doses of Janssen biologic donated by the US government begining of June.
