Puebla beats Chivas at the start of J14 of Liga MX

Chivas‘ winning streak under Arturo Ortega has been short-lived. After having achieved two victories with their new coach, Guadalajara fell 1-0 against a Puebla that had seven consecutive defeats in the Apertura 2024 tournament of the Liga Mx.

The Guadalajara team could not replicate the good game they played in the last two days with victory and remained in seventh place with 21 points. Thus, they suffered their first setback with Ortega, who had to take over the bench unexpectedly after the departure of Argentine Fernando Gago, who signed with Boca Juniors.

With the result on matchday 14, Puebla’s coach, José Manuel de la Torre, barely takes a breather after a complex season in which his team has only won three times.

The poor performance of the Puebla team had even affected the entrances to the matches. Now, the Cuauhtémoc stadium received one of its best entries this campaign although a large part of the fans were wearing the red and white jersey.

Although the Guadalajara team came after having beaten Necaxa and Pachuca, they now showed a more measured game, with few risky actions in the attack. The strategy failed, and the locals knew how to read the red and whites’ deficiencies to take the victory.

The Uruguayan Emiliano Gómez was right when he received the ball inside the area after a long pass to get rid of the opponent’s mark and unleash a powerful cross shot with which he beat goalkeeper Raúl Tala Rangel in the 62nd minute.

It was not until then that Chivas woke up on the offensive and even Ortega himself promoted the attack with youth players like Pavel Pérez and Fidel Barajas, but he was already sentenced in favor of the people of Puebla.

Shortly before, Santos and Mazatlán were left with a goalless draw at the TSM stadium. The Warriors remain among the last places with just ten points and are obliged to win the next matches to aspire to the league.

Mazatlán, in turn, is on the twelfth step of the general table, although it is last on the quotient list and is beginning to emerge as one of the teams that will have to pay a fine for poor sporting performance.
