Patients with chewing and swallowing problems in the VieCuri hospital in Venlo no longer receive custard, but a pudding sandwich. It prevents choking and contains less sugar, which is especially good for patients with diabetes. They often had to receive extra insulin and that did not feel good for the healthcare staff. This is reported by Omroep Venlo.
Patients with chewing and swallowing problems – frail elderly people, people with dementia or patients who have had a stroke – are also happy to be served more than just custard or pudding. “Imagine having to eat custard every time.” They do keep the choice for pudding or custard, but if they are tired of that, they can now also opt for a pudding sandwich.
Seasonal products
VieCuri is now investigating whether seasonal products can also be served in this way, for example during the holidays.
