Visitors will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the traditions that are an integral part of the rich folklore of northern Chile.
“The Path: From Intimacy to Devotional Ecstasy,” a captivating photography exhibition by artist Maureen Mayne-Nicholls Klenner, opened its doors to the public until Sunday, September 15 at the emblematic Municipal Theater of Viña del Mar.
The images, meticulously printed on fabric and decorated with delicate jewellery, offer an intimate and moving journey. Each photograph captures unique moments, from the privacy of homes to the climax when the devout dancers appear before crowds, such as at the festival of La Tirana or the Virgin of La Candelaria.
With this exhibition, organized by the Vice-Rectorate for Community Engagement at PUCV, through its Directorate of Artistic and Cultural Engagement and the PUCV Alumni Network, visitors will have the unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the traditions and rituals that are an integral part of the rich folklore of northern Chile, experiencing the transformation of these dancers from their everyday life to their devotional ecstasy.
The exhibition will be open to the public free of charge in the foyer of the Teatro Municipal de Viña del Mar, with visiting hours from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. This is an invitation to immerse yourself in a world of tradition, faith and art, a unique opportunity to connect with the cultural richness of our Latin America through the eyes of Maureen Mayne-Nicholls Klenner.
The exhibition will complement the show “Peregrinos del Tamarugal, music and devotion in La Tirana”, which will be presented by the PUCV Folkloric Ensemble on Thursday, September 12 at the same theater, on the occasion of the group’s fiftieth anniversary.
