On Friday, September 6, 2024, the Institute of Music of the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso (IMUS PUCV) took a significant step in its internationalization process by holding a meeting with academic Lilla Gabós, representative of the renowned Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in Hungary. The meeting, held at the IMUS facilities, sought to lay the foundations for a future academic exchange agreement between both institutions, which will strengthen ties between Chile and Hungary.
The Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music, founded in 1875 by the acclaimed composer Franz Liszt, is one of the most prestigious music education institutions in Europe. Since its inception, it has been the birthplace of world-renowned musicians and composers, and its legacy continues to position it as a benchmark of excellence in classical music education. Today, it not only stands out for its training in musical performance and its leadership in the teaching of Kodály Pedagogy, but also has departments dedicated to Chamber Music, Musical Conducting, Composition, Musicology, Opera, Folklore and Jazz. The academy offers bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral programs, covering a diversity of disciplines that position it as a comprehensive center for high-quality musical training. (
Meeting attendees and objectives of the agreement
The meeting was attended by Cristina Gutiérrez, Coordinator of International Relations of the Institute of Music; Ricardo Álvarez, Academic Secretary of IMUS; Abigail Villalobos, professor of Musical Reading; and José Tomás Marín, part of the support team of the Directorate of International Relations of PUCV. During the meeting, various lines of collaboration that are still in discussion were addressed.
The future exchange agreement is part of the efforts that IMUS PUCV has been making to consolidate its presence on the international stage and offer its students a broader range of educational and professional opportunities. This agreement will allow PUCV students to have access to the educational excellence of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music.
Next steps
Although the talks are still at a preliminary stage, both the PUCV Music Institute and the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music hope that this agreement will be finalized soon, and with it, the specific details of the first joint activities will be announced. Both institutions consider this agreement to be a milestone in their international relations, which will allow for mutual enrichment and an exchange of knowledge and experiences in the field of music.
With this initiative, the PUCV Music Institute reaffirms its commitment to academic excellence and its openness to new experiences that benefit both its students and faculty, projecting the university on the international music scene.
