Puchkov Tournament Begins with Victories for Severstal and Sibir

The Puchkov tournament started in St. Petersburg – Severstal and Sibir achieved victories on the first game day.

The tournament was opened by the game of HC Sochi and Severstal. The teams entered the game with lineups close to optimal. Maxim Tretyak took the place at the Leopards goal, and Dmitry Shugaev turned out to be his counterpart from Severstal.

The first period passed with a tangible advantage of the Cherepovites, however, Andrei Kozyrev’s wards managed to convert a two-fold advantage in shots into a goal only once thanks to Adam Lischka’s accurate shot in the majority. The second twenty-minute period turned out to be much more revealing: in less than six minutes, four more goals turned up at the Tretyak goal. Daniil Vovchenko scored a double, Kirill Pilipenko and Timofey Davydov each scored a goal.

After the fifth puck, 19-year-old Nikita Tulinov took the place at the gates of HC Sochi, but he did not manage to stay dry for a long time. Just 2 minutes and 26 seconds after he entered the ice, Egor Stepanov converted the majority for Severstal with an accurate throw and brought the advantage of the Cherepovites to six goals. In the third period, Stepanov scored the seventh goal against the guests from the Black Sea coast. The only thing left to count on Dmitry Kokorev’s wards is the puck of prestige. And they managed to build it 28 seconds before the final siren. Rusk to the goalkeeper of the steelworkers Shugaev was torn off by the Leopards forward Anton Sagadeev – 1:7.

In the evening game on the ice of the St. Petersburg “Ice” “Avtomobilist” fought with “Siberia”. The Urals played their last matches more than a week ago at the Cup of the Republic of Bashkortostan – and the team’s line-up, as expected, has been seriously updated compared to that time. For the first time, French forward Stefan Da Costa played in the preseason – he came out on the first line with Sergey Shirokov and Stepan Khripunov. Striker Anatoly Golyshev remained in the reserve, and Nikita Tryamkin and Nick Ebert were absent from the defensive line among the key players. The place at the gate was taken by Vladimir Galkin, Denis Kostin became his Siberian counterpart.

The absence of Taylor Beck in the squad became noticeable in David Nemirovsky’s team, and rookie Pavel Gogolev got a chance to prove himself in the first line – and he could use it already in the first minute, going to a rendezvous with the goalkeeper, but the post helped the Ekaterinburgers. The new coaching staff of Siberia in the preseason demonstrates the deep confidence of the youth – it is not the first time that the position of the second center was taken by 19-year-old Ivan Klimovich, and his brother Yegor single-handedly created a dangerous moment in the middle of the first period, getting out to the right post – he was on the spot Galkin.

In the first period, the teams exchanged penalties, then Avtomobilist got two more opportunities to practice playing extra, but the Urals created the most dangerous moment when playing five on five. Da Costa escaped with the puck into the operational space, won back Kostin and tried to bring a projectile into the near left corner – the goalkeeper of Siberia, thanks to a phenomenal reaction, managed to save the team. This episode noticeably enlivened the game – and Novosibirsk responded with a one-on-one out from Ivan Klimovich. The young striker sent the puck to the goalkeeper’s guard, and Vladimir Butuzov turned out to be the quickest on the rebound and opened the scoring.

Despite the pre-season status, the teams did not deny themselves emotions – and did not always cope with them. Sibir newcomer Andy Andreoff defeated Yegor Baranov in a fistfight, and his partner Alexei Yakovlev got 5 + 20 for hooking. The teams continued to exchange penalties until the final siren – a total of 59 minutes accumulated for two – however, this did not affect the result in any way, even despite the fact that Avtomobilist spent the last 10 seconds in a 6-on-4 format, gaining the majority and replacing Galkin. Sibir started in St. Petersburg with a minimal victory – 1:0.
