Frankfurt am Main (dpa/lhe) – Several pubs, clubs and cultural institutions in Hesse are not broadcasting any matches of the controversial World Cup, which starts this Sunday in Qatar. On the contrary, they offer an alternative program and rely, among other things, on exhibitions, screenings of old games and other sports or films.
Under the motto “Crime scene Offenbach instead of crime scene Qatar”, the “Förderverein für Offenbacher Fußballkultur” shows a police call episode 110 that revolves around Kickers Offenbach. In the Kassel sports bar “Zum Rauchfang” a darts tournament is planned instead of live football.
An alternative program with an exhibition, lectures, a football tournament and old football classics is also offered during the World Cup by the “Fullestadt fan project” in Kassel. NFL football championship games are played in the Hot Legs bar in Kassel.
The World Cup in Qatar starts on November 20, the final will be held on December 18. For the first time in winter, a final tournament will be played, which causes displeasure for many. Above all, however, the tournament has been criticized because the emirate has been accused of massive human rights violations, for example in the construction of stadiums.
