LThe Air France company announced last Wednesday the resumption of its flights to Bamako for October 13, after two months of suspension, also in Burkina and Niger, following the putsch against the power of Mohamed Bazoum. This “unilateral” suspension was not to the taste of the countries concerned. According to a press release from the Mali air navigation authority, the examination of the resumption request is still in progress. This cacophony clearly shows the impatience on the French side.
There are big issues behind it. In 2022, according to Congolais.fr, the company experienced a 28% increase in the number of passengers to Africa, or 3.87 million out of a total of 16.49 million. Africa paradoxically represents a good percentage of its turnover. It goes without saying that the 3rd quarter results will be negatively impacted. This return as announced is a little watered down, to the extent that Air France “sold” its flights to another aircraft manufacturer. Basically, it is another company which will fly in the name of the company, but without the Air France coat of arms, which preserves its planes and its flight crew for safety reasons. She just wants to preserve her niches.
