Take the bus and train from Oberstdorf to Lindau or simply plan a detour on the next mountain tour and take the bus on the way back – holiday guests in Oberallgäu can do that from Tuesday. You no longer need to purchase an additional ticket. Overnight guests will automatically receive their tickets with their guest card upon check-in.
The so-called Mobil Pass Allgäu aims to make it easier for holidaymakers in the southern Oberallgäu to access local public transport. The ticket is funded through a tourist tax. Everyone who stays overnight in the southern part of Oberallgäu has to pay this tax to the town.
The tourist focus is in the southern region
One reason why some communities in the north of the region do not participate: According to project manager Sandro Drechsel, many communities in the north are not allowed to raise a spa tax and therefore have a problem with re – project financing. On the other hand, this means: Anyone who stays overnight in the eleven of the 28 Oberallgäu municipalities that are not involved in the Mobil Pass Allgäu will not receive a public transport ticket. However, according to Drechsel, the focus of tourism in Oberallgäu is at least in the southern part of the region. In addition, communities that have not yet participated in Mobil Pass Allgäu can join the project later.
Adding to the movement of movement
Tourism researcher Guido Sommer from the University of Kempten believes that the introduction of a holiday ticket is “ideally appropriate” for the Oberallgäu. “In others Tourist areas Guest tickets like this have been around for a long time,” said Professor Dr Sommer, Dean of the Faculty of Tourism Management, in an interview with BR24.
To remain competitive, the Oberallgäu must follow suit. For him, the holiday ticket is the “right step and building block in things Movement of movement“. Nevertheless, public transport in the area needs to be further improved. However, with the help of guests, it can also be determined which routes and tours are in particular demand. As recently mentioned at press conference, the region is already working on improving public transport and would like to implement a corresponding concept by 2027.
Goal: Less car traffic
With the holiday ticket, the region also wants to contribute to climate protection by reducing individual traffic. Sandro Drechsel still accepts that many holidaymakers come to the Allgäu by car, but he bets that more and more they will leave their vehicles on holiday because of the ticket.
The Allgäu Mobil Pass is valid for the duration of the guests’ reserved stay and can be used on buses and… regional trains can be used throughout Oberallgäu. Destinations in communities or cities that have not yet participated can also be reached. The ticket is also valid on the Bodo transport association in the Lindau, Ravensburg and Bodenseekreis districts as well as two lines each in the Tannheimer Tal and Bregenzerwald in neighboring Austria.
