Geneva wants to catch up on the development of public transport. The Grand Council has updated the framework law on its network by incorporating new structuring projects for the canton.
A very large majority (80 votes against 13 and 3 abstentions) accepted Friday the modification of the law on the public transport network. This bill of the Council of State respects the law for a coherent and balanced mobility (LMCE) accepted in vote, noted the head of the Department of infrastructures Serge Dal Busco.
The revised roadmap provides for total investments of 826 million francs. The extension of the Plan-les-Ouates tram to Saint-Julien (F) is included (242 million) as well as the extension of the Nations tram to Ferney (F) and possibly the airport (193 million). The fast-charging electric buses, especially on the Rive-municipal axis of Ambilly are also included.
The controversy over the new cycle paths, which has been igniting Geneva since mid-May, has heated the debates. Very upset against these developments which, according to him, block traffic, the deputy PLR Jacques Béné launched many spades at the address of the State Councilor PDC Serge Dal Busco. However, the PLR voted for the bill while the MCG refused it in protest.
