Public service workers in the states of Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland want to stop work this Tuesday in a full-day warning strike. “We are calling for a“ stay-at-home strike ”,” said a spokesman for the German Trade Union Federation (DGB). Work stoppages are to be expected among other things at the fire brigade, at the central fines office or in clinics, whereby the emergency supply is secured.
In view of the increasing number of corona infections, DGB and Verdi refrained from an originally planned star march through Mainz. Instead, a rally is now being called in the Rhineland-Palatinate state capital on Konrad-Adenauer-Ufer (1 p.m.). A rally in front of the Congress Hall is planned for 12 noon in Saarbrücken.
For the coming weekend, the third round of negotiations between Verdi and other employee representatives and the collective bargaining association of German states (TdL) is due in Potsdam. In addition to better working conditions, the unions are demanding five percent more wages for employees, but at least 150 euros a month. In addition, trainees and interns are to receive 100 euros more per month.
The TdL has so far rejected the demands as unrealistic and has not yet submitted an offer. Verdi regional district manager Michael Blug criticized the fact that the employers “did not respond a bit to the demands of the employees” in the first two rounds of negotiations.
