The strike peaked on Thursday

The Verdi union wants to increase the pressure on employers with the stoppages in the ongoing collective bargaining negotiations. According to Verdi, the pace of the strikes will pick up by the weekend. “That will gradually increase. Thursday is the highlight of this week,” said a Verdi spokesman.

On Wednesday there are to be strikes in the Rems-Murr district, Crailsheim (Schwäbisch Hall district) and Reutlingen – including in daycare centers and clinics. On Thursday, employees of daycare centers, clinics and authorities are supposed to resign from their work in Stuttgart and Heilbronn. In the two cities, public transport is also expected to strike on Thursday.

More money required

Last week, the warning strikes in the public sector started. The Verdi union is satisfied with the way things have gone so far. In Baden-Württemberg around 4,700 employees have so far participated in the campaigns, said a spokesman for the SWR. The unions are demanding 4.8 percent more money in the ongoing collective bargaining, but at least 150 euros more per month. The next round of negotiations in the public sector will take place in Potsdam on October 22nd and 23rd.
