Amazing statistics knowledge

In 2022, a total of 523,390 full-time equivalents (FTE) were employed in the public sector in Baden-Württemberg; including 288,920 in the state area. According to the State Statistical Office, the overall staffing intensity was 46.4 and the state workforce was 26 employees per 1,000 inhabitants.

A total of 219,730 FTEs were employed in the municipal sector. Baden-Baden had the highest personnel intensity of the independent cities with 27 employees per 1,000 inhabitants. Freiburg im Breisgau had the lowest value among urban districts with 17 FTE. The average personnel intensity of public employees in the districts (employees in the district offices are included here) was 19. The Ortenau district has an above-average personnel intensity with 84 municipal FTEs per 1,000 inhabitants. Here there are 5,570 FTEs for every 31,125 residents. This high number of public sector employees is due to the fact that the Ortenau Clinic, with 4,725 employees, is one of the two hospitals in Baden-Württemberg that is assigned to the municipal sector. The range of the remaining 34 districts extended from 14 (Neckar-Odenwald district) to 20 (Böblingen) FTE per 1,000 inhabitants.

As part of the personnel statistics, confidentiality is taken into account by rounding the numbers by 5. This can result in rounding differences when forming totals. Full-time equivalents of employees are calculated using the sum of full-time employees and the number of part-time employees, which were weighted with their actual working time factors.

Personnel intensity describes the full-time equivalents of employees per 1,000 inhabitants.
