RALEIGH, North Carolina.- Due to the increase in coronavirus cases in several schools in North Carolina, some counties are considering a full return to online classes.
–
Such is the case of the Wake County Public School System, who recommended Monday to the Board of Education all students return to remote learning.
–
“If this is what happened on Thanksgiving, what will happen after Christmas? The numbers will continue to rise. We believe that this is not a secondary transmission, but the impact of the number of people entering the schools, “said Cathy Moore, superintendent of the Wake County Public School System.
–
The lack of staff, due to the number of teachers in quarantine from confirmed cases or possible exposure to the virus, has hampered operations in Wake County schools.
–
To address this issue, Moore recommends that all students transition to remote learning from January 4-15. The final decision will be revealed Tuesday by the Wake County Board of Education.
–
The organization Alliance for Justice in Education shared with Noticias 40 that they have long denounced that face-to-face classes are affecting students academically, in addition to putting their health at risk.
–
“It is hardly credible that counties and the (state) government are putting more restrictions in order to reduce contagion, and the Wake Board of Education has been doing the opposite,” said Fernando Martinez, of the Alliance for Justice in Education. See here the expanded report.
