Our organizations strongly reaffirm their attachment to the educational project of public, secular, free and compulsory schools: welcoming all students everywhere without distinction of any kind, being ambitious for everyone, respecting and participating in true freedom of conscience, particularly through the construction of critical thinking around scientifically validated knowledge. We denounce denigrating remarks, like the words of the Minister of National Education, against those who keep public schools alive. We also denounce policies that organize a form of social separatism and contribute to undermining social cohesion and our democracy.
Today, the public education service is going through an unprecedented crisis: recruitment crisis, resignations, staff who demonstrate a loss of meaning in their profession… Like the public hospital, the public school It is not far from collapse and is ultimately only held together by the professional conscience of exhausted staff while the President of the Republic looks elsewhere or the Minister of National Education multiplies the provocations. This disconnection with reality and the scale of the difficulties encountered on a daily basis arouse great anger among staff. As for the students’ study conditions, they have not improved and educational inequalities have continued to widen without staff being able to really act.
The implementation of the measures contained in the Shock of Knowledge is not likely to resolve these inequalities. Indeed, this clash of knowledge is a set of announcements which has great ideological coherence for the government. Inspired by an outdated and conservative school model, it lays the foundations of a school of social sorting in the image of the level groups which will contribute to assigning students to social and academic positions. It is also a formidable challenge to the professional freedom of teachers (through the labeling of textbooks, for example) and the emphasis on management by standardized national assessments at all levels. It’s enough !
Our organizations FSU, UNSA Education, SGEN-CFDT, CGT Educ’action and Sud Education are calling on staff to strike on Thursday February 1st. Our colleagues must be revalued, recognized, respected and protected. They must have the means to carry out their missions in this public school which does not sort students, welcomes them all, contributes to their emancipation through knowledge and to help them grow as citizens.
We demand in particular emergency measures: revaluation without compensation of personnel articulated around immediate measures and a multi-annual programming law, abandonment of the Pact, creation of a category B civil servant status for AESH and improvement of the conditions of work, in particular through the reduction in class numbers and a multi-year recruitment plan. Concerning the professional route, we ask the Ministry of National Education to reconsider the reform, particularly in the final year, in order to build ambitious lessons for students.
Everyone on strike and in demonstrations on Thursday February 1st!
