The Prosecutor’s Office of the Province of Luxembourg opens an investigation into the Ferrero plant in Arlon. That reports The time and is confirmed to our editors. An infection in Arlon has now led to more than a hundred salmonella cases.

“For now, we can only confirm that an investigation has been launched. The official report is currently being drawn up,” said public prosecutor Anne-Sophie Guilmot. She also says in a statement that in the interest of the investigation no further information will be provided for the time being. More information will follow at the end of this week.
• Was Ferrero Trying to Cover Up Salmonella Contamination?
The investigation comes after a salmonella contamination was found at chocolate producer Ferrero, which led to at least 105 confirmed cases in eight European countries and the United Kingdom, including young children. Some patients had to be hospitalized with severe symptoms, such as bloody diarrhea.
The federal food safety agency FASFC says it will continue its own investigation. Last Friday, the FASFC stopped production in Arlon, because the company ‘is unable to provide complete information for this investigation’.
The news about a salmonella infection became known in our country at the beginning of last week, but on Thursday it turned out that Ferrero had already found salmonella on 15 December in a filter. The company said it had taken steps and insisted that “materials and finished products would not be released.”
This has not prevented the release of contaminated products. In our country, 26 salmonella cases between mid-January and mid-March are being investigated for a link with Ferrero products from Arlon.
Recall
With the temporary withdrawal of the license, it was also decided to remove all children’s products from that factory from the shelves. The Arlon plant accounts for approximately 7% of the total annual amount of Children’s Products produced worldwide.
Consumers who have purchased the recalled products are advised not to consume them and to return them to the store where they were purchased for a refund.
For a refund, consumers can also contact customer service at [email protected] or 0800 21042.
