The Public Ministry led by Consuelo Porras regrets the sensitive death of Dr. Edwin Humberto Salazar Jerez, who was Comptroller General of Accounts in the period 2018-2022.
To that extent, he expresses his condolences and solidarity with the family of Salazar, who reportedly died as a result of the cancer he had overcome during his period of administration at the Comptroller General of Accounts.
Added to this disease, the consequences of COVID-19 weakened his immune system, so the cancer affected his lungs and his hospitalization in the United States was necessary.

TRAJECTORY
Salazar Jerez had a career as a public accountant and auditor, for his part, within the institution and before occupying his last position he was director of the Special and Support Entities Unit, as well as in the hotel sector. He was also a professor at the Rafael Landívar University and at the San Carlos University of Guatemala.
The Plenary Session of the Congress of Guatemala selected Dr. Salazar Jerez among 14 candidates. He managed to take office in April 2019, obtaining the support of 103 deputies who voted in his favor.
