Demonstrations call for the resignation of Consuelo Porras
At least 70 routes are blocked, on the sixth day of demonstrations. Porras Argueta is accused of allegedly orchestrating a “coup d’état” against the elected president Bernardo Arévalo.
The MP’s communication states: “the attorney general has faithfully carried out her role, which is strictly framed in the investigation of all events reported by Guatemalan citizens to provide a timely response to the victims, who have the right to obtain a response to their complaints, thus guaranteeing respect to their human rights, which is incompatible with any accusation regarding actions that threaten democracy, since not investigating or promoting the failure to investigate certain facts encourages corruption and impunity.”
The MP rejected the protests and assures that the service provided by the Public Ministry is essential for the population, which is why the prosecutor’s offices have been organized so that attention does not stop.
He added: “This type of blockade prohibits access to justice for the population and seriously violates the rights of crime victims. However, MP services will not stop”.
“The Public Ministry is respectful of the opinion of all citizens, in the same way of the right to demonstrate, whenever it is carried out in the terms that the law establishes, without affecting the population through blockades, activities that are not supported by the constitution. “legal and violate the rights of other citizens.”says the MP.
