Public media awards “Kilograms of culture 2021” were presented; The event of the year – the evening of festive songs dedicated to the centenary of Imants and Gido Kokari “Brāli Brāļi” on the evening of February 19 live on Latvian Television and Latvian Radio presented the annual awards of Latvian public media in culture – “Kilograms of Culture 2021”. The awards went to last year’s brightest cultural events in nine nominations.
Viewers and listeners acknowledged the event of the year Evening song evening dedicated to the centenary of Imants and Gido Kokari “Brother Brother”, which took place on August 14 at the Grand Stage of Mežaparks. “It’s a time when it’s probably easier for me to conduct than to talk. Thank you to every Latvian singer and every choral conductor for what we do, ”said Roman Vanags, the artistic director of the song evening.
As usual, the nominees for the award were nominated by the jury – the cultural professionals of Latvian Television, Latvian Radio and the public media portal LSM – and the winners were chosen by the audience.
In the “Music” category, the award was received Concert of Elīna Garanča and Raimonds Pauls “If You Weren’t …”, which took place on July 24 at the Latvian National Theater. Raimonds Pauls received the award: “Thank you very much! Especially for my partner Elīna Garanča – it was not so easy to work with her, but the result was good. It is a pleasure to be with such a singer. I hope Elīna hears now. I say gentle words that I don’t usually do. Thank you, Elīna! ” In the video greeting, Elīna Garanča thanked the audience: “Thank you to the audience – you are the ones for whom we go on stage. Your love is what sustains us. Such an assessment is a great impetus for further work. ”
In the category “Literature” the gilded kilogram weight was obtained Andris Kalnozols’ novel “Calendar calls me”. Receiving the award, Henrik Elias Zegner, editor of the book, said: “I am convinced that Andris Kalnozols’ novel” Calendar is Calling Me “is a brilliant novel. The irrational feeling permeates all the chapters of the book. Many thanks to Inga, Sasha and all other colleagues from the publishing house “Orbīta”. Heartfelt thanks to the readers as well. I want everyone to think more often about what is important and to remember that love is a verb. ”
The “Kilogram of Culture 2021” award in the “Surprise” category was received Christian Brecht’s wall painting “Dedication to Jam Skulme”. The artist himself came to receive the award: “Thank you mom, thank you parents, thank you” Art needs space “. Be brave and let artists, poets, judges, doctors and others do their work. ”
In the “Heritage” category, the prize was won the restored Ķemeri Historical Park. Rita Sproģe, the chairwoman of the Jurmala Culture Committee, who received the golden weight, stated: “Thank you to my whole team. Thanks for the nomination. Thank you for appreciating the work of all Jurmala residents and Jurmala City Council. We all know what cultural heritage is – we get it from the past and leave it to future generations. ”
In the category “Cinema”, the audience rated it the highest multi-series feature film “Emily. Queen of the Latvian Press ” (directors Andis Mizišs, Kristīne Želve, Dāvis Sīmanis and Gints Grūbe). In a speech of thanks, the film’s producer and director Gints Grūbe said: “Thank you to the audience, voters, the jury, the social media, as well as the great team of the film – more than 500 people. For the story itself – thank you to the strong women in the history of Latvia and today, thank you to the men who support them. ”
In the category “Cultural place” the prize was won Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Center. Director Māris Čačka, receiving his kilogram, expressed confidence that “For the second time in a row, the place of culture is in Latgale. Thank you colleagues, thank you to Daugavpils, thank you to everyone who loves cultural places. Cultural places are what make us think, get attached and start doing it. ”
It was rated the highest in the category “Visual Arts” Aivars Wilipsons tab “Chuck lives here”. The artist Aivars Vilipsons himself came to receive the award: “Thank you to everyone who voted. Sculpture is a collective work. Thanks to the initiator of the idea, the director of the Chuck Museum Antra Medne, the Boris and Inara Teterev Foundation, the sculptors I would not be able to do without – Ivars Miķelsons, Kārlis Alainis. Thanks, nice.””
In the category “Theater” won Viesturs Kairiss directed “Smile” at Daile Theater. In his speech of thanks, Kairišs said: “Thank you! It is an honor to receive this award. Thanks to the author Māra Zālīte. We very often do not see what level of contemporaries we are fortunate enough to live with. Māra Zālīte challenged herself, time and culture – it is invaluable. Thanks to Daile Theater. ”
The jury of the Kilograms of Culture 2021 prize consists of LTV, LR and LSM cultural professionals – Ieva Rozentāle, head of LTV Cultural Programs, journalists Lilita Eglīte, Eva Johansone, Daira Āboliņa and Henrieta Verhoustinska, LR3 “Klasika” director Gunda Vaivode, journalists Liene Jakovļeva and LR1 journalist Toms Treibergs, as well as Laila Burāne, editor of the LSM culture section of the portal

“Kilograms of Culture” is an award for public media in the field of culture, which confirms the active participation of public media in the processes of Latvian cultural life. The award is given by Latvian Television, Latvian Radio and the Latvian public media portal LSM. The tradition dates back to 2012, when the awards were presented for the brightest cultural events of 2011.
