Public health and PAHO launch MoHanA challenge – Suriname Herald

COVID-19 has had a major impact on the Surinamese community. Especially during this special holiday period, everyone is affected by measures that are necessary to preserve public health. To respond to this, the MoHanA challenge has started.

This challenge arose from a collaboration between the Ministry of Health and the Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO) with the aim of making the Surinamese community more aware of the steps that everyone can take to reduce the risk of contracting COVID-19.

By introducing an acronym MoHanA, which stands for Face mask, Clean hands, Keep your distance, the community will be reminded in a recognizable way of the personal steps one can take to reduce the risk of COVID-19 contamination. If everyone adheres to the MoHanA behavior, we as a country can return to a more normal situation.

The community is encouraged to participate in this challenge, where they can creatively show how they make the MoHanA behaviors part of their daily lives. The challenge will start today at 20:00 via the specially created Facebook page Mohana Suriname and via GOV.TV. The special MoHanA song, a composition by the well-known artist and youth parliamentarian Emanuel Sanvisi, has been released for this campaign.

The rationale is simple, says Orwine Derby of the Health Ministry, who addresses the young. “COVID is in Suriname and you too can contract it and infect others. How do you ensure that you protect yourself and others? ”

Everyone, especially young people from the age of 14, can participate in the challenge by making a video of up to 60 seconds, in which they creatively show how they make MoHanA a part of their life and make others aware. The videos may be in any language spoken in Suriname. Each submission must be posted to Facebook, Instagram or Tiktok and must contain the hashtag #MohanaSuriname. All participants have a weekly chance to win great prizes.

The Ministry of Health will actively promote the challenge through a new instagram and Facebook page, called Mohana Suriname. This challenge lasts two months and can be extended depending on the progress.
