The Public Health Commission will analyze this Tuesday the epidemiological situation after the detection of first case of the omicron variant in the State and will study the pediatric vaccine to children aged 5 and 11, already authorized by the European Medicines Agency (EMA, for its acronym in English).
The general directors of Public Health of the Ministry of Health and of the communities have on the agenda the analysis of the state and international situation of the pandemic, marked by omicron, of which the Madrid Hospital Gregorio Marañón confirmed the first positive detected yesterday in the State, while Catalonia studies two possible cases of travelers.
The meeting coincides with the approval, by the Minister council, from restrictions on flights from various African countries, including South Africa, which add to the trickle of measures that the State has been imposing on passengers from southern Africa.
VACCINE UNDER 12 YEARS
Before the Public Health meeting, this Tuesday morning is scheduled to meet the vaccine presentation to advance your proposal on the immunization of children under 12 years of age after the endorsement of the EMA, which last week concluded that the benefits outweigh the risks in this population group.
Pfizer will start distribute them in the European Union in the second half of December, “according to its productive capacity”. The schedule will be the same as in adults: two doses in the upper arm separated by an interval of three weeks.
However, the new formulation for children, who will receive a third of the adult dose (10 milligrams versus 30 milligrams), does not need dilution.
The Basque Minister of Health, Gotzone Sagardui, said yesterday that the number of doses that will arrive is still unknown, but that, as soon as they are, the vaccines will be given even if the children are on vacation on those dates, so he appealed to parents to agree to immunize their children as is done with others on the calendar.
