Public financing of the Eyyub Sultan mosque in Strasbourg

The administrative judge annuls the resolution of the city council of Strasbourg which granted a subsidy of 2.5 million euros for the construction of a mosque in the city under a concordat regime.

With a sentence of 10 November 2022 (nos. 2102347 and 2102497), the administrative court of Strasbourg annulled the resolution with which the city council of Strasbourg granted a contribution of 2.5 million euros to a religious association for the construction of a place of worship in Strasbourg. The judges considered in particular that the city of Strasbourg had not complied with the subsidy criteria for places of worship that it itself had established with two resolutions in 1999 and 2000 according to which the subsidy request had to be formulated earlier (… )
