Public Enemy returns to old label Def Jam and releases new album | NOW

Public Enemy has re-signed with the record label Def Jam, which the hip-hop group said goodbye to more than twenty years ago. Their new studio album will be released on September 25, reports Variety Friday.

“Cultural institutions are important,” said group member Chuck D. “And to be part of that is a great honor.”

“It’s time to make music again in a place that we can call home.”

Public Enemy released their debut album in 1987 Yo! Bum Rush the Show out at Def Jam. After that several successful albums followed.

The first single that the hip-hop group releases on Def Jam is a remix of their song Fight the Power, with which they previously scored a hit in 1989. Their new album What You Gonna Do When The Grid Goes Down, the group’s first in three years, will be released on September 25.

The group released their new single in June State Of The Union (STFU) three months after an argument between founders Chuck D and Flavor Flav resulted in the latter having to leave the group. The song conveys the message that US President Donald Trump should leave the field according to the two founders.

Disagreement between Chuck D and Flavor Flav over Chuck D’s political activities under the banner of Public Enemy led to Chuck D ending up Flavor Flav in March after 35 years out of the group put. Flavor Flav would also have been bad blood by his earlier refusal to support the charity foundation of singer Harry Belafonte. Flavor Flav is now part of the hip-hop formation again.
