Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – PUBG Corp, a South Korean company that holds the copyright for the online game PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) has decided to no longer use the services of Tencent Games China as the publisher of this online game in India.
In exchange, PUBG Corp will take all responsibility as a publisher in this country of Bollywood. However, it is unclear whether this decision will affect the relationship between the two corporations in other businesses.
“PUBG Corporation fully understands and respects the actions taken by the Indian government because the issue of privacy and security of player data is the company’s priority,” said PUBG Corp in an official statement, Tuesday (9/8/2020).
PUBG Corps added that it hopes to work with the Indian government to find a solution that will allow players to re-enter the battlefield and fully understand Indian laws and regulations.
“Now that the company is looking for ways to provide its own PUBG experience for India in the near future, the company is committed to doing so by maintaining a localized and healthy gaming environment for its fans,” explained PUBG Corp.
Last week, India decided to block 188 Chinese apps including PUGB Mobile and PUBG Mobile Nordic Map: Livik for reasons of national security and user data privacy.
India is one of PUBG’s biggest markets. Currently PUBG Mobile has been downloaded more than 600 million times, of which 24% of the downloads come from India, according to the Sensor Tower research institute.
