PUBG developer Krafton buys Swedish game studio The Ascent, the developer of action RPG The Ascent. The studio, meanwhile, is working on an open-world first-person shooter. It is unknown what amount is involved in the takeover.
Krafton writes in the presentation of quarterly results who wants to finalize the acquisition of Neon Giant in the near future. Krafton is the developer of the battle royale game PUBG: Battlegrounds. The company says in its quarterly review that PUBG’s player count has mainly grown since January of this year, because that game has since moved to a free-to-play model, similar to competitor Fortnite.
In the coming months, Krafton plans to “continue to invest in development and services to release a stable flow of premium stocks,” it writes in its quarterly results. One of the most important developments in this regard is the acquisition of the Swedish studio Neon Giant. That studio is best known for The Ascent, an action RPG made by developers who have previously worked on games like DOOM, Gears of War, and Far Cry. Neon Giant is currently working on a first-person shooter set in an open world, but the companies aren’t giving details yet
Krafton also says he will be working with a “major Canadian studio” on an as-yet-unannounced game called The bird that drinks tears to develop further. Krafton is also working on a looter shooter, a multiplayer shooter and a sequel to the adventure game Subnautica.
