PtD for dead zone: Decisions have been made that will be implemented if the situation is not restored

The United Nations has informed us that the situation in the dead zone, in Agios Dometios, will be restored, however, if it is not restored, we have taken some decisions which will be implemented, but we will not make them public, said the President of the Republic Mr. Nikos Christodoulidis tonight .

In his statements to journalists, attending the presentation of the book by Kostas Hatzikosti, at the University of Nicosia, the President of the Republic, when asked to refer to the new incident of provocation by the Turks in Agios Dometios, said that “this is a very serious violation. The United Nations has informed us that the situation will be restored. If it is not restored, we have already made some decisions that will be implemented, decisions that will not be made public. But, I repeat, the UN has informed us that the situation will be restored. This is an incident that we neither downplay nor underestimate, and decisions have been made, which will be implemented in the event that the situation is not restored.”

Asked if the Government is concerned about the situation, the President of the Republic replied “of course we are concerned. It is a perennial policy of the occupying army to challenge the dead zone. Let me remind you of what happened in Strovilia, let me remind you of other incidents, this questioning has always existed. We have given the UN, they asked us for 24 hours, immediately after that decisions were made, which will be implemented, they will not be made public”.

In a journalist’s remark that the Turks continue with the same pattern while our side is constantly trying to restart the negotiations on the Cyprus issue, President Christodoulidis said that “this approach (of the Turks) is timeless without degrading or underestimating. I mentioned the Strovilas earlier, there are a lot of incidents that we see. Nevertheless, we will do everything possible to restart the dialogue. You realize that the present state of things, the passing of time, the creation of new facts, such as the ones we are experiencing, do not help to solve the Cyprus problem. So, from our side, it is our own homeland under occupation, we will do everything possible to create conditions for the resumption of talks.”

When asked if the lifting of the status quo is a condition for the resumption of the dialogue, the President of the Republic said that “the lifting of the status quo is a condition for the non-implementation of decisions taken by the Republic of Cyprus, as I mentioned above”.

Asked if humanitarian aid for Gaza will reach Cyprus, the President of the Republic said that “we have already been informed by some countries that wish to send humanitarian aid to Gaza through the Republic of Cyprus. Our design is about maritime transport, the creation of a maritime humanitarian corridor. It was something that I also discussed yesterday with the Emir of Qatar, you know the role of Qatar in general in this crisis, and we receive requests from countries, so that they transfer humanitarian aid here and from here it is transferred for the Palestinians.

Asked when this plan will be implemented, President Christodoulidis said that “events concerning this specific issue are constantly ongoing”.
