TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – PT Honda Prospect Motor (HPM) commented on the government’s plan to make it difficult to purchase gasoline or internal combustion engine (ICE) cars. This plan is considered to be in line with Honda’s plans regarding electrification.
Sales & Marketing and After Sales Director of PT HPM Yusak Billy said that Honda plans to market it in the near future mobil hybrids in Indonesia. After that, Honda will prepare an electric car product line to be marketed in Indonesia.
“We’re in line government. This year we will introduce hybrids, in the future there will also be the introduction of BEVs, then future expansions,” Billy said when met in Depok, West Java, Monday, June 26, 2023.
Billy said that Honda globally has a target of achieving carbon neutrality for all of the company’s products and activities by 2050. However, to present electric cars in the country, Honda is currently still in the education and survey stages of consumers in Indonesia.
“So we are looking for a car that really suits consumers in Indonesia. As for the BEV, by 2040 Honda will go there globally, by 2050 the company’s activities will also be carbon neutral,” he explained.

Previously, the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, had taken action to accelerate the era of electric vehicles in Indonesia. One of them is by tightening the purchase of conventional or ICE (internal combustion engine) vehicles.
“We will also gradually start making it difficult, (in) quotes, combustion cars so that Jakarta’s air quality can be better. So that our families will get air quality as possible in our neighboring countries,” said Luhut.
Luhut explained that the disruption to ICE car sales could encourage the purchase of electric cars in the future. He even targets that 10 percent of cars in Indonesia by 2030 will be electric cars.
