“Psycho” had a certain impact when it was released in theaters, yes, even before that. Alfred Hitchcock himself made sure of this by forbidding his actors from giving interviews. The master of suspense packed everything that people were allowed to know in advance into a small, six-minute trailer or advertising film in which he cleverly led his audience on the wrong track – only to tear the rug out from under their feet in the end.
