The match between PSV and FC Twente in the TOTO KNVB Cup was definitively canceled on Thursday evening. Due to heavy rainfall, the field in the Philips Stadium is unplayable.
The match was originally scheduled to start at 9 p.m., but the unplayable field made that impossible. The field was inspected again at 9:15 p.m., but the turf was also found to be unplayable.
Large puddles can be seen on the field, which caused the ball to stop rolling in the warm-up. The necessary piercing and sliding work also did not have the desired effect. At 9.30 pm it was decided to stop the match permanently.
The match will in any case be caught up after the winter break. This will probably happen on January 10, although there is no definitive answer yet.
It does not seem possible to catch up on the match on Friday or Saturday, because several (foreign) players would go on holiday or back to their home country soon after the match.

‘It was very slippery, life-threatening’
According to referee Jeroen Manschot it was unsafe to allow the match to continue. “It was very slippery, very dangerous. I don’t want to have it on my conscience if something happens to one of the players,” he told ESPN.
“If it had become dry, the question is how long it will take before the field is playable. Both teams also indicated that in their opinion playing football was not possible.”
Former players Xavi Simons, Phillipp Mwene and Anwar El Ghazi will be said goodbye to on Thursday evening in the Philips Stadium. The trio left the Eindhoven club last summer.
