PSV-Dortmund | Tuesday 20 February at 20:17

The last time PSV and Dortmund faced each other in Eindhoven was in October 2002. The Germans won 1-3 thanks to goals from Jan Koller, Tomas Rosicky and Marcio Amoroso. The Eindhoven goal was scored by Remco van der Schaaf.

Jerdy Schouten plays as a central defender for the first time since December 17. The originally midfielder starts instead of André Ramalho, most likely because of his greater footballing ability.

Line-up! At Borussia Dortmund we see two Dutchmen in the starting line-up! Ian Maatsen is the left back and Donyell Malen returns to the Philips Stadium.

Speaking of Luuk de Jong! It could be a very special evening for him. If he scores, De Jong is PSV’s all-time top scorer in the Champions League. He now shares the record with Ruud van Nistelrooij, as they both scored eight goals in the Miljoenenbal.

Luuk de Jong is the only PSV player who was there against Atlético eight years ago. Both matches ended 0-0. Atlético Madrid then won on penalties.

We have to go back in time to the last time PSV played in the eighth finals of the Champions League. That was 2016, when Atlético Madrid was the opponent. At the time, goalkeeper Jeroen Zoet was one of the standouts.

Dortmund reached the last sixteen by finishing first in the ‘group of death’ with AC Milan, Paris Saint Germain and Newcastle United. The Germans won twice against Newcastle United (0-1 and 2-0), lost and drew against PSG (2-0 and 1-1) and gained four points against AC Milan with a 1-1 draw and a 1- 3 win in the Italian fashion city.

PSV secured a place in the last sixteen in the Champions League in the away match against Sevilla. In an insane match, the Eindhoven team won 2-3 against the Spaniards after a 2-0 deficit. Earlier, PSV lost 4-0 at Arsenal, drew twice (Sevilla-at home 2-2 and Lens-away 1-1) and the Eindhoven team won at home against Lens (1-0).

After the away match at Sevilla, PSV played at home against Arsenal, but that match no longer made any difference to the final score in group B. Although it was still good that they kept the then leader of England to a draw (1-1).
