PSV player Davy Pröpper (30) stops playing football immediately | Football

sport">The midfielder still had a contract for a year and a half in Eindhoven, but he had it dissolved. Pröpper, who says he has lost the fun in football, played nineteen times for the Dutch national team and scored three goals in Orange. He played most of his international matches under national coach Ronald Koeman.

sport">The midfielder played for Vitesse, PSV and the English club Brighton & Hove Albion. Last summer he returned to Eindhoven. Pröpper played nine times in the Eredivisie in the first half of the season and scored one goal for the leader from Eindhoven.

‘Difficult to discipline’

sport">“During the period that I was abroad, I noticed that I slowly lost the pleasure of football,” says Pröpper in a statement on the PSV website. “I found it very difficult to muster the discipline necessary to perform optimally and to let my life completely be determined by the busy football schedule. The corona period and the lack of visits from family and friends did me no good then either.”

sport">He hoped to regain the fun by returning to PSV, the club with which he won the championship in 2016. “Unfortunately, that has not turned out to be so easy, partly because I don’t feel comfortable in football culture. Still, I have adapted to it for a long time and sometimes closed it off. I don’t want that anymore and that’s why I’m done with it now.”

Relief

sport">Just before Christmas, Pröpper decided to stop. “And that feels like a relief. This is how I know it is the right choice.” The born Arnhemmer, who broke through in the yellow-black of Vitesse, will be thinking about his future in the coming six months. “I’m going to find out exactly what I want, where my passions and interests lie and what I want to pick up. Of course I also had many beautiful moments that I cherish. Will I miss playing football? We will all see.”
