PSV on report: twice an 8, but also two outliers down

Yvon Mvogo – 5.5: He couldn’t do much about the two Greek hits and was not often put to the test. Remarkably, he was also not often involved in the game by his teammates, who more often opted for a row forward than a back pass. But Mvogo was still made as a soccer goalkeeper?

Denzel Dumfries – 6,5: When PSV is struggling, Dumfries is often the first to be looked at. However, the captain did not have it easy in the opening phase and was initially passed a few times on the right. After a while, however, we saw his impressive attacks along the line again.

Jordan Theseus – 6: He too was initially powerless against the Greek storm that raged over the PSV defense. Teze, however, grew with PSV and played sober and solid in the rest of the match. One of the revelations in the Philips Stadium so far.

Olivier Boscagli – 5.5: A few minutes before half time, 1-2 score, four Greeks on one PSV defender … But Olivier Boscagli stood his ground and nipped the life-threatening attack in the bud. It was also not very special what the Frenchman showed, but this intervention turned out to be of crucial importance afterwards.

Philipp Max – 5,5: The brand new German international is the assist king of PSV, but this time he could hardly distinguish himself from an offensive point of view. Moreover, he turned out to be defensively vulnerable in the opening phase: the 0-1 and 0-2 were prepared in his zone. At the second Greek goal, he failed to back his colleague Madueke. Max, however, recovered in the course of the game, as did almost all of his teammates.

Cody Gakpo – 7,5: In numerical terms, the man of the game. The 1-2 came from his right foot, the 2-2 from Madueke fell after a measured cross from Gakpo. His pass with the outside to Dumfries would be accompanied with a standing ovation in a packed stadium. Usually from the left, now from the right: Gakpo also works fine.

Pablo Rosario – 5: It was not Rosario’s night. PAOK’s 0-1 fell after the controller was half-baked in an air duel. In the remainder of the match he remained one of the lesser PSV links, in possession of the ball and in the switch.

Ibrahim Sangaré – 6: During his first weeks of PSV he has regularly proven why John de Jong dared to dig into his pouch so deeply. Against PAOK, Sangaré again showed his insight and his duel power. However, the performance of the Ivorian did not go completely smoothly. The midfielder was occasionally sloppy in passing and occasionally left oceans of space when losing the ball.

Noni Madueke – 8: His match could not have started worse: PAOK scored twice after Madueke lost his opponent. However, the Englishman recovered well, became the engine of PSV’s attacking game and – just like Gakpo – was able to add one assist and one goal. The people of Eindhoven have gold in their hands, that much is clear.

Eran Zahavi – 4.5: What should PSV do with a 33-year-old Israeli striker from the Chinese league, has been asked several times after his transfer? Eran Zahavi has not yet been able to give the answer. He already had an off-day against FC Twente and little was successful against PAOK Saloniki. No striker is confident here, that much is clear.
