PSV is the first Eredivisionist to be short on salary: management hands in 20 percent | NOW

PSV was the first Dutch club on Friday to cut salaries because of the corona crisis. The directors of the 24-time national champion surrender 20 percent of their wages as long as there is no audience.

On Wednesday, the social partners of the Dutch professional football – players’ union VVCS, interest group ProProf and the federation of professional football organizations FBO – announced that collective financial measures may soon follow, but PSV is not waiting for that.

“I am in control of the management, so we will hand in at least 20 percent as long as we play without an audience,” said general director Toon Gerbrands, who together with Peter Fossen, John de Jong and Frans Janssen form the PSV management, at talk show On 1.

Gerbrands is also in discussion with the players of PSV about the possible surrender of salary during the crisis. “They have heard the story and next week we have a follow-up conversation.”

So far, PSV is the only Dutch club that is short on salary to provide financial space during the crisis. In several foreign leagues, clubs have already decided to withhold wages in recent weeks.

On Tuesday it was announced that the season in the Eredivisie and Kitchen Champion Division will almost certainly not resume. The KNVB decided on Friday after a meeting with the clubs that no title will be awarded and there will be no promotion and relegation.
