PSSI Straightens Shin Tae-yong’s Allegation About Not Booking a Field

There was a misunderstanding between Shin Tae-yong and PSSI. All of this happened because of the booking of the field for the Indonesian national team practice.

The Indonesian national team is actually scheduled to train at the Madya Stadium on Thursday (26/5/2022) afternoon at 17.00 WIB. However, the exercise was canceled after it was discovered that the stadium had not yet been booked.

PSSI through the Secretary General, Yunus Nusi, explained the problem. The federation actually had booked the field for 18.00 to 20.00 WIB, but the South Korean coach suddenly asked for the schedule to be accelerated.

When Shin Tae-yong asked for the schedule to be changed to 17.00, PSSI tried to fulfill it. Unfortunately for the Garuda Squad, the field at that hour was already filled.

“We through the secretary of the Indonesian national team have made a field booking as requested by coach Shin Tae-yong. But suddenly a few hours before practice Shin Tae-yong asked to be changed suddenly and accelerated to 17.00 WIB,” said Yunus Nusi as quoted from the PSSI official website.

“There are still fields that are being used so we can’t use them. The manager of the Madya stadium gave information from 18.00 to 20.00 and this has been informed to coach Shin Tae-yong,” he continued.

Yunus Nusi also emphasized that PSSI always asked for a training schedule that was designed by Shin Tae-yong long ago. Well, for the agenda of Indonesia’s preparation against Bangladesh, Shin Tae-yong gave it suddenly.

“When the Indonesian national team wants to hold a training camp (TC), we always ask the coach for a schedule ahead of time. But yesterday the coach gave a schedule a few days before the training camp and asked for a sudden change to 17.00 WIB. Small misunderstandings like this shouldn’t be polemicized Especially when it comes out to the media,” he said.

Yunus conveyed that PSSI is very grateful to the government for fully supporting the program for the Indonesian National Team. Moreover, almost all requests for the Indonesian national team through coach Shin Tae-yong were fulfilled by PSSI.

“We are able to conduct a number of training camps in Europe (Croatia, Spain, Turkey), South Korea, the United Arab Emirates and others because of government support. But we are sorry that we have not been able to provide the desired target such as a gold medal at the 2021 SEA Games, ” said Jonah.
