Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Chairman of the PSSI National Team Agency (BTN) Sumardji said that his party had registered 50 players Indonesian National team for 2023 Asian Cup (2024).
“[Kami sudah daftarkan] 50 players for the 2023 Asian Cup,” Sumardji told CNNIndonesia.com on Monday (11/12) morning.
The registration was carried out by PSSI according to the deadline on December 10 2023. However, only 23 players will be entitled to appear in the 18th edition of Asia’s highest championship.
Regarding the names of the registered players, Sumardji was reluctant to be candid. PSSI will announce the list of player names ahead of the team’s training camp on December 20.
Regarding whether Justin Hubner was also registered or not, Sumardji was reluctant to be frank. Likewise with the chance to register Nathan Tjoe-A-On and Jay Idzes, Sumardji did not answer.
Hubner, who has been sworn in as an Indonesian citizen (WNI), is just waiting for the association to move from KNVB to PSSI in FIFA. If it is ratified, he can defend the Indonesian National Team.
The naturalization process for Nathan and Jay has only just been approved by the DPR RI plenary. The naturalization of both of them is still waiting for a presidential decree before the Indonesian citizens can take the oath.
Apart from that, the Indonesian national team will begin preparations to appear in the 2023 Asian Cup starting December 20. Shin Tae Yong will take his team to train in Türkiye.
While in Türkiye the Garuda squad will undergo two trial matches. Asnawi Mangkualam and his friends will meet Libya on December 2, then face Libya again on December 5.
After that the training camp will continue in Qatar. Before having their first match against Iraq on January 15, the Indonesian national team will have a trial with Iran on January 9.
