PSSI Plans to Include Indonesian Diaspora Players in Training Camp in Turkey for 2023 Asian Cup

PSSI General Chair Erick Thohir Chairman of the National Team Agency (BTN) Sumardji said he was working on a diaspora Indonesian National team can join the training camp in Türkiye at the end of December.

The Indonesian national team plans to leave for Turkey for a training camp ahead of the 2023 (2024) Asian Cup in Turkey on December 20. A total of 40 players may be called.

Of the 40 names that will be called, some are from the diaspora. They are Asnawi Mangkualam Bahar, Saddil Ramdani, Pratama Arhan, and Jordi Amat. They are active in Asia.

Then there are Sandy Walsh, Marselino Ferdinan, Shayne Pattynama, Ivar Jenner, Rafael Struick, and Elkan Baggott. They are the Indonesian National Team diaspora who are active in Europe.

Unlike players who take part in the Indonesian League, players abroad will find it difficult to call up. This is because Liga 1 2023/2024 will take a break starting December 19, while those outside will not.

Most of the clubs played by the Indonesian diaspora, especially those in Europe, will still be competing until early before Christmas or some after New Year 2024.

“The General Chairman (PSSI, Erick Thohir) is coordinating with each club and we are also trying. Hopefully it can be done,” said Sumardi, Thursday (30/11).

“This means that currently the key is communication. Establishing good communication with the club that is managed by the players who are currently playing abroad,” he said.

The Indonesian National Team requires long preparation because joining the group is difficult. Indonesia will compete with Japan, Iraq and Vietnam in Group D of the 2023 Asian Cup.
