Iriawan, as general president of PSSI, announced this after the formation of the Indonesian Football Transformation Task Force Team with FIFA and AFC, in Jakarta on Thursday (13/10/2022). This is part of the continuing improvement in Indonesian football after the Kanjuruhan tragedy, which claimed 132 lives.
A few hours after the tragedy, Iriawan immediately apologized on his personal social media accounts and on the PSSI website. As time goes by, there are pressures for PSSI to take responsibility as well.

The responsibilities assigned to the PSSI vary widely. There are those who are calling for a full investigation and others who are asking Iriawan or Iwan Bule to step down from their positions.
Iriawan was firmly convinced that the Kanjuruhan tragedy was neither the responsibility of the federation nor the federation. This incident was purely the fault of the Panpel and the security officers who were found negligent in fulfilling their duties, but Iwan Bule is currently taking a different attitude.
“First of all, on behalf of the federation (PSSI) I apologize for the incident. PSSI is fully responsible for this incident,” Iriawan said opening his statement.
“The form of accountability is that we have decided to form a Soccer Transformation Task Force made up of the government, then FIFA,” he added.
Iriawan believes that the formation of the Task Force Team can be an impetus to improve the implementation of Indonesian football. In addition, the preparation of corrective measures received direct assistance from FIFA and the AFC.
In the timeline of the Task Force Team action plan, many steps will be taken in its efforts to improve the governance of Indonesian football. All these action plans are prepared to ensure the safety, security and comfort of football matches.
“These are all experts (members of the Task Force Team), there are from the football family, that is the safety and security team, there are also the AFC, Polri, Kempora, Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of Health, Ministry of PUPR Today’s meeting (Task Force Team) is on the agenda of all of us, there are timelines and discussions together “, said Iriawan.
“As for the Police, there will be synchronization with the FIFA rules and there will be a follow-up meeting between FIFA and the FIFA property rules. In the meantime, PUPR regarding the direction of the President (Joko Widodo) he will work on auditing at all stages, “He said.
“At the moment, the minister (Kemen PUPR), Basuki Hadimuljono, is also on the ground, considering what the president’s (Jokowi) directive will be for,” said the former police chief of Metro Jaya.
