PSSI don’t set grandiose targets for Indonesian National team from AFF Cup 2020. Previously, the federation had stated that it wanted Garuda to win the biennial tournament.
AFF Cup It will finally be held after being postponed due to the COVID-19 situation. But the format is adjusted to the conditions of the pandemic. which is held centrally in Singapore from 5 December.
Before being postponed, PSSI had stated that he had set a champion target AFF Cup 2020. more Indonesian National team is now addressed Shin Tae-yong who incidentally has experience in the 2018 World Cup.
But PSSI has now corrected the statement on the target of winning. The Indonesian national team was only asked to perform as much and as best as possible.
“In the AFF Cup, we did not set a target to win or not. But coach Shin told us that he wanted to give the best for the AFF,” said PSSI Secretary General Yunus Nusi to reporters, Saturday (7/11/2021).
The Indonesian national team has yet to win the event, which has been held since 1996. Of the five opportunities to enter the final, all ended in failure.
AFF Cup 2020 which was delayed to 2021 this will be the 13th edition. PSSI still do not want to force the Indonesian national team to win in the upcoming title.
Coach Shin Tae-yong has not yet confirmed his fate after the upcoming AFF Cup. Unlike before, where he had threatened his position if he failed to pass Garuda from the 2023 Asian Cup playoffs.
“We will see how far the achievement of the national team in AFF. That was first. And hopefully he will enter the final and win. Every event must be evaluated,” said Yunus Nusi regarding the fate of Shin Tae-yong.
