The last days of the Galician campaign have left the PSOE sidelined in the struggle that the PP and the BNG have turned into the elections for the presidency of the Xunta. To counteract the demobilization of his electorate and the condition of the socialists as a “crutch” for the nationalists of Ana Pontón, an expression formulated by the PP in its rallies, Pedro Sánchez has urged this Saturday at the central event of the 18-F campaign to “concentrate the vote on those who know how to govern change.” In this way, he has claimed the experience of the PSOE as the party that has governed Spain for the longest time since the restoration of democracy. A few stripes to which it adds being the only party that has governed in all the autonomous communities.
Sánchez has announced that the Council of Ministers on Tuesday will approve a line of guarantees of 2,500 million euros through the Official Credit Institute (ICO) aimed at young people and families with minors and in situations of economic difficulty to facilitate access to housing . The Executive already made the announcement in May and what it will do now is approve the conditions, which financial entities will be able to comply with. The Minister of Housing, Isabel Rodríguez, already reported in Congress in January that the Government intended to immediately approve two lines of aid with the ICO: one intended for 20% guarantees for young people and families with minors in their care to pay the entry to the purchase of a home and a line of ICO loans of 4,000 million euros for the public-private promotion of affordable housing. Regarding the first, Rodríguez explained that it was focused on young people and families with minors in their care for partial coverage of mortgage loans, for an amount of up to 2,500 million, and that some 50,000 people could benefit. The objective, the minister said, was to “alleviate the lack of prior resources” for access to a mortgage.

“As important as voting for change is in whom the vote for change is placed. I claim that the usefulness of the vote is in the PSOE and I ask to concentrate the vote on those who know how to govern change. In this last week, I ask all those who voted socialist and progressive on July 23 not to look the other way. The utility of change is the Government of change. And that only has one ballot and one name: PSOE and José Ramón Gómez Besteiro. On February 18 we are going to go out and win as we socialists have always done,” Sánchez stated before 1,600 people at the Mar de Vigo Auditorium. “To those who want change and think it is difficult, I say: It depends on you, it depends on you that change is possible. Let’s not stay to see them coming. Let’s get active. “This last week is crucial, the PSOE’s comeback begins!” Besteiro encouraged the participation in the face of the apathy that the party recognizes among its electorate, in the face of the hypermobilization in the ranks of the BNG. “In this last week we are going to do better!” predicted the socialist candidate, who in his rallies ignores the BNG and only attacks the PP. “Called [Alfonso] Wheel and being still says it all. Galicia cannot vote again for immobility. You have to vote socialist for it to move,” Besteiro insisted at a rally in which all the interventions, except those of the members of the federal leadership, were in the Castelao language. “In front of Rueda, more Besteiro! They say it is difficult, but when did we have it easy to achieve rights such as free public education or healthcare?” emphasized the PSOE candidate.

Sánchez has called Alfonso Rueda’s decision not to attend the RTVE debate, which the PSOE and BNG candidates will attend, an “escape.” “When there is a football team that does not show up for a match, they not only lose that match, they are expelled from the competition. This week there is a new debate and we see a new scare from the PP and Rueda. This demonstrates two things: its total absence of arguments and political project for Galicia, and even more serious, the total lack of respect for the Galicians who are summoned on February 18 to decide on their future,” stated the President of the Government. “For that reason alone the PP does not deserve to be one more minute in the Xunta de Galicia. Therefore, on February 18 everyone will vote en masse to send the PP home,” Sánchez added in a new call for the mobilization of an electorate, the socialist, which doubles the votes in the general elections, which is reduced to half in the autonomous regions. The president, who already held a rally last Saturday in Ourense, will participate in another on Thursday in A Coruña and at the closing of the campaign in Santiago.

The president has also addressed the farm and sea workers, mobilized this week and who demand better conditions such as that distributors cannot sell at a loss and who consider products from countries outside the EU that do not apply the rules as unfair competition. same phytosanitary requirements and that produce with less strict working conditions. “I want to tell the primary sector that the Government is with its farmers and ranchers, with its fishermen. The primary sector does not need denialist and anti-European speeches. It needs resources and fair prices, that is why we approved the food chain law and we are going to reinforce it,” he stated.
Sánchez has recognized that the primary sector “needs mirror clauses—agreements with other countries with the same conditions—to be able to compete on equal opportunities with the rest of the regions of the world.” In addition to reducing and simplifying the administration of the CAP “and that is what the Government of Spain is going to do”, it has made progress on the bureaucratization that the primary sector attributes to the Common Agrarian Policy. A man and two women have been evicted by the organization in this part of Sánchez’s speech. Abroad they have continued to protest against the amnesty, an issue that is causing wear and tear on the PSOE and that no one has mentioned at the rally.
