Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
PSIS supporters including the Panzer Biru and Snex groups rioted in the PSIS Semarang vs Persis Solo duel in Week 25 in Jatidiri, Friday (17/2).
The rioting started when PSIS supporters violently protested who forced their way into the Jatidiri Stadium because the match was being held closed to spectators.
Thousands of PSIS Semarang supporters surrounded the entrance to the Jatidiri Stadium. The mass of PSIS supporters from the Panzer Biru and Snex groups demanded that the Organizing Committee allow them to directly support their favorite team.
These supporters feel that they do not have any problems or conflicts with Persis fans, so there is no reason to clash or attack each other.
“We came to watch our favorite team, and PSIS became the host, how come we fans weren’t even allowed to watch it. For reasons of security considerations, we have no problem with the Persis team and fans,” said Heri, one of the supporters.
Apart from shouting, the mob of supporters threw stones and bottles at the Rantis Police car which was blocking access to the stadium entrance.
“I ask peaceful colleagues, who are conducive, please don’t be anarchic,” said the Head of Operations for the Semarang Polrestabes AKBP Recky Robertho in front of the crowd.
The decision to carry out the match without spectators was a joint decision of the Organizing Committee, PSIS and Persis management and the Police. This step was taken as an effort to anticipate the occurrence of riots between supporters.
