PSI Audio Introduces the Next Evolutionary Stage of Acoustic Absorption Technology: AVAA C214

With the introduction of the Active Velocity Acoustic Absorber AVAA C20 in 2016, PSI Audio revolutionized acoustics. The Swiss manufacturer is now presenting the next evolutionary stage of the innovative technology: the AVAA C214.

With AVAA, PSI Audio has found a clever way to manipulate the acoustic impedance in front of the device. The result is the elimination of resonant frequencies from the room—not just for the sweet spot, but for the entire room. AVAA covers the entire spectrum from 15 Hz to 160 Hz and requires no calibration or tuning. All room modes in this range are eliminated, ridding the listening room of unnecessary rumble in the very spectrum that is difficult to deal with with passive acoustics. AVAA is 45 times more efficient than classic absorbers of the same size, saving space while delivering impressive results. As it deals with room modes, it mainly improves the room’s response over time: a short bass pulse does not continue, but stops when it is supposed to. The result: tighter bass even in tighter spaces.

The new AVAA C214 from PSI Audio takes a slightly different approach to AVAA technology. While the original C20 is completely analogue (and still available), the C214 uses digital technology. This allows the new model to react more flexibly to the room and can be controlled with a smartphone or tablet. The associated app is available for iOS or Android and allows AVAA C214 to be controlled remotely – either a single device or a whole group. The app can turn one or more devices on or off and allows for more extensive sensitivity adjustments to optimize the system’s efficiency and ensure perfect absorption. A new control system ensures optimal performance even with sudden changes in room impedance. The C214 replaces the C20’s large diaphragm with two smaller ones, reducing the footprint and allowing for an even more compact and elegant design that can be installed anywhere in the room: on the floor, on the wall or on the ceiling.

AVAA functionality does not change with the new C214 – the new model eliminates room modes just as efficiently, if not more efficiently, than its analogue-only predecessor. AVAA acts like a hole in the wall that “lets through” the sound waves, removing them from the room. With its compact and clear design and its extremely high efficiency, AVAA is a particularly mobile solution: If the listening environment has to move, the AVAA devices simply move with them and resume their function in the new room. Although AVAA is an active bass trap, it behaves like a typical bass trap: there are no anti-noise emissions, noise-cancelling, or a “reverse” subwoofer – just high-efficiency absorption. AVAA is arguably the simplest, most elegant and flexible acoustic solution for room modes available.

Accurate sound reproduction – that is the mission of PSI Audio. The Swiss manufacturer is known by audio professionals and audiophiles around the world for loudspeakers that reproduce the original sound in amazing detail. AVAA is just another aspect of that mission, as the listening environment is critical to the experience. Manufactured to the same high standards as PSI Audio’s active loudspeakers, the AVAA C214 is a precision instrument that delivers uncompromising performance and brings the music to the fore as it should be – the real thing.

The PSI Audio AVAA C214 is distributed exclusively by Audiowerk and will be available from mid-May. The RRP will be announced at a later date.
