Should superstar Neymar (30) go to jail?
It has been nine years since the Brazilian moved from his youth club Santos to the big-name Barcelona.
And it was this transfer that could cause a lot of trouble!
According to the Spanish newspaper El Pais, Neymar will stand trial in Barcelona for corruption and fraud from October 17 – a good month before the start of the World Cup in Qatar.
Background: The lawsuit is a late consequence of a lawsuit filed by the Brazilian investment fund DIS seven years ago. Accordingly, at the time of Neymar’s change at Barca, DIS owned 40 percent of the rights to the player. And he feels cheated not only by the player, but also by his family and Barcelona.
Barça originally said in 2013 that they had paid €57.1 million for Neymar. However, he later admitted that the real value of the scorer was at least 86.2 million euros.
According to the report, prosecutors are seeking two years in prison for Neymar and a €10 million fine. DIS is seeking a total of more than 150 million euros in damages and an even harsher sentence for the superstar: five years in prison and an equally lengthy football ban.
In addition to Neymar, his parents, ex-presidents of Barcelona Sandro Rosell (58) and Josep Maria Bartomeu (59), as well as the former boss of Santos and Barcelona are also accused in the process.
