PSG: Season probably over for Julian Draxler after knee surgery

For national player Julian Draxler, the season has probably gone well. As his club Paris Saint-Germain officially announced on Friday, the midfielder underwent surgery for an injury to the right lateral meniscus.

Such an intervention normally entails a compulsory break of at least four weeks. This would have ended the season for the 2014 World Champion prematurely. Paris puts Draxler’s downtime at “30 to 35 days”.

PSG: Seville rumors about Draxler

Draxler may have played his last game for PSG with it. As he himself recently pointed out, he is considering leaving Paris for more playing time after this season. At the end of March he said: “I need to have more game practice towards the World Cup. You’ll see what happens in the summer. I have to play more than this season.”

The 28-year-old has made 24 competitive appearances for the star ensemble from the Seine so far in 2021/22. Draxler scored two goals and two assists.

Draxler’s contract runs until 2024. PSG signed him in January 2017 for 36 million euros from VfL Wolfsburg. The Spanish top club FC Sevilla is said to be interested in the offensive player.
