In a big interview with “RMC Sport”, PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi made a big all-round blow – and also addressed Lionel Messi directly.

Lionel Messi and Paris Saint-Germain did not really part on good terms. At least that’s what the Argentine world champion of 2022 has emphasized publicly more often in the recent past. For example, in September 2023, Messi complained that he was “the only player in the World Cup” who “did not receive any recognition from his club.” After the final victory against France (4-2 on penalties), he was not given enough homage.
Just one of several examples. The answer from PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi, who delivered a verbal all-round blow to “RMC Sport” on Tuesday, was unmistakable. “I have a lot of respect for him, but if someone talks badly about Paris Saint-Germain after he leaves, that’s not okay. That’s not respect,” the 50-year-old made it clear to Inter Miami’s new superstar. “He’s not a bad boy, but I don’t like it. I’m not just saying this for him, but for everyone. You talk when you’re there, not when you’re away. That’s not our style.”
We don’t need any more stars.
Al-Khelaifi certainly also alluded to Neymar. The Brazilian declared – also last September – that he had “gone through hell” with Messi at PSG. Messi had to leave PSG “in a way that he didn’t deserve”. At times the Argentine was booed by his own fans.
The lack of gratitude from the superstars is apparently a thorn in Al-Khelaifi’s side. Maybe that’s why he’s aiming for a conscious change of course after transfers like those of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Neymar, Messi or Kylian Mbappé, whom he absolutely wants to keep. The Qatari businessman openly admits this: “We don’t need any more stars. We need players who respect our jersey, who respect the club and who give everything for the Paris Saint-Germain coat of arms.”
